More than half of the world's population currently lives in cities. This number is expected to increase to two-thirds in less than 40 years, thanks to the pace of urbanization. Airports are now incorporated into the urban landscape with development taking place right up to the boundaries. Automated People Movers (APM) and Automated Transit Systems (ATS) have been integral to city and airport transportation for more than 50 years. As professionals work together, the coming decades will bring more opportunities and challenges to improve the quality of life across the globe.
It's important to consider the potential of innovative applications of APM and ATS. How will these systems develop and improve? Can technologies like personal rapid transit and autonomous road vehicles enhance transportation efficiency? How can these systems work in conjunction with existing and future physical infrastructure? There are endless possibilities for the future. Let’s explore them together.
